Queen's Health System Sr. Instrument Specialist (Full-Time, 40, Varied Shifts) in Honolulu, Hawaii

RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Leads daily functions and activities of the department to assure efficient workflow and services are provided in a competent and timely manner.

• Serves as a liaison and resource for requests and questions regarding decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of all basic and specialized complex instrumentation and troubleshoots equipment or product failure.

• Performs instrumentation processing to assure cleanliness and sterility of instruments and trays for medical center units/departments.

• Performs duties in accordance with Body Substance Isolation, regulatory standards, department and medical center’s policies, procedures and protocols, accepted techniques, and manufacturer’s guidelines as applicable.

• Serves as a preceptor for all new hires.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Essential: standing, walking, kneeling, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting usual weight of 15 pounds up to maximum weight of 50 pounds, pushing/ pulling usual weight up to maximum 50 pounds, carrying maximum weight of 50 pounds.

• Frequent: stooping/bending, reaching above, at and below shoulder level, repetitive arm/hand motions., gripping of object, standing and walking for prolong periods,

• Operates cart lifts, cart washers, computers, copier, decontaminators, endoscopic washer, ultrasonic washer, etcher, fax machine, pneumatic tube system, instrument tracking system, telephone and case carts.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

• Subjected to heat while wearing protective uniform and working in decontam.

• Subjected to noise/vibration from sterilizers and equipment.

• Frequently exposed to hazardous materials and chemicals, communicable diseases and body fluids.

• Work environment is highly stressful, fast paced and hectic.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• High school diploma or equivalent education.

• Current certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required.

• Academic background with courses in general and biologic science preferred.

B. EXPERIENCE:

• Two (2) years sterile processing experience, preferably in a comparable medical center.

• Experience to demonstrate the following:

o Good working knowledge of procedures relating to sterile techniques and processing, infection control, supply, and inventory control.

o Familiarity with medical supplies and instrumentation in an acute care setting.

o Prior customer service experience.

o Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.

• Prior experience with computers and automated systems preferred.
