Queen's Health System Histotechnologist (Full-Time, 40, Day) in Honolulu, Hawaii

RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs histologic techniques, routine and special staining and preparation of cytologic specimens.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Essential: standing, sitting, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking.

• Continuous: sitting, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.

• Frequent: walking, twisting body, reaching above and at shoulder level, repetitive arm/hand motions.

• Occasional: standing, stooping/bending, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, lifting weight of 10 pounds up to 50 pounds.

• Operates microtome, tissue processor, tissue embedder, computer, label printer, calculator, telephone, fax and printer.

III TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

• Exposure to blood and body fluids, chemicals, communicable diseases and other hazardous materials.

• Exposure to fumes from formaldehyde, xylene and alcohol.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• Current certification as Histotechnician HT(ASCP) or Histotechnologist HTL(ASCP) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).

B. EXPERIENCE:

• One (1) year recent work experience as a histology technician desirable.
